Trophy Room

Trophy Room

1. Collection motivation — Empty pedestals with hints about what trophy could fill them drive exploration and boss-hunting. "Nothing here yet" creates desire to fill every spot.

Design Pillars

  1. Collection motivation — Empty pedestals with hints about what trophy could fill them drive exploration and boss-hunting. "Nothing here yet" creates desire to fill every spot.
  2. Account-wide investment — Trophies are earned at the account level and benefit Standard characters. Current Season keeps the collection and display but suppresses mechanical bonuses, preserving a fair ranked race.
  3. Level-gated power — Active trophy slots scale with level, ensuring low-level characters get some benefit while high-level characters unlock the full trophy arsenal.
  4. Social display — Party members can visit another player's Trophy Room to see their collection, creating bragging rights and aspiration. But they can't modify anything.

Trophy Definitions

There are currently 39 EARNABLE trophies across 5 categories. Each provides two permanent stat bonuses when active.

DarknessFallsCosmeticsTrophies also holds 4 purely decorative Blood Emerald shop items (Golden Weapon Glow, Shadow Trail, and the Wealthy and Feared titles), so values().length is 43. Those cosmetics are owned and equipped like any trophy but are EXCLUDED from the player-facing trophy total, because the Trophy Room readout tells the player to defeat bosses, consume rare items, or complete achievements to fill the room -- true only of the earnable set. Counting a shop item would hand the player a completion target they can only buy. The discriminator is isCosmetic() (both bonus values zero), and the reported denominator is earnableCount(); a newly added zero-bonus shop item therefore classifies itself. The numerator applies the same filter, so a player holding a cosmetic never hears "2 of 39" after earning one. Trophy-slot capacity is reported separately and still counts every equipped item, cosmetics included.

Each empty pedestal shows a hint about how to earn the trophy — so even if you don't have it yet, you know exactly what to do.

Earning Trophies

Boss Kill Trophies

When you defeat a boss for the first time:

  1. The boss is defeated
  2. You receive a message: "You have earned the [Trophy Name]! Visit your Trophy Room to see it displayed."
  3. The trophy appears on its pedestal immediately

Item Consumption Trophies

Some rare items can be consumed to unlock trophies:

  1. You have a trophy-granting item in your inventory
  2. Use the item (say "use item", "consume", or similar)
  3. The item is permanently consumed — removed from your inventory, cannot be recovered or sold
  4. The trophy is added to your collection
  5. Message: "The [Item Name] dissolves into pure energy, forming the [Trophy Name] in your Trophy Room!"

This is an irreversible choice: A rare item could be sold on the auction house for Blood Emeralds, or consumed for a permanent account-wide bonus. Choose carefully.

Active Trophy Slots

You can't have all earned trophies active at once. The number of active slots scales with your character's level:

Active slots = max(1, character level ÷ 10)
Your Level Active Trophy Slots
1-19 1 slot
20-29 2 slots
30-39 3 slots
40-49 4 slots
50-59 5 slots
60-69 6 slots
70-79 7 slots
80-89 8 slots
90-99 9 slots
100 10 slots (all current trophies)

This is per-character: A level 50 character gets 5 slots even if your account also has a level 100 character with 10 slots. Leveling your characters lets you make the most of your trophy collection.

Activating and Deactivating Trophies

To activate: Stand on an owned trophy's pedestal and say "activate". Requires an open slot.

To deactivate: Stand on an active trophy's pedestal and say "deactivate". Frees up a slot for a different trophy.

Changes take effect immediately — your stats update on the spot.

What You See on a Pedestal

Empty pedestal (trophy not earned):

An empty pedestal awaits a worthy trophy.
{hint: "Defeat the Fire Lord to claim this trophy."}

[Trophy Name]

Bonuses: [Fire Resistance +15, Fire Damage +10]
Status: Owned (not active)

[Options: "activate", movement directions]

Earned and active:

[Trophy Name]
[Flavor text]
Bonuses: [Fire Resistance +15, Fire Damage +10] (ACTIVE)
Status: Active
Trophy slots: {used}/{max}
[Options: "deactivate", movement directions]

Access & Navigation

Entering the Trophy Room

Walk to the Trophy Room entrance square in your hideout. There is no teleport command for the Trophy Room — you must walk from the hideout.

Hideout corridor (must stay walkable): the Trophy Room entrance sits at hideout square (6,10), west of the Star Map portal (8,10) and the Character Select portal (9,10). The connecting square (7,10) is a short hallway named "the hallway near the Trophy Room". It must remain walkable in the HIDEOUT_ZONE template (DB table darkness_falls.darkness_falls_unique_items_enemies_zones, types='ZONE', slot_type='HIDEOUT_ZONE', JSON path zoneSquares 7,10 — this is the runtime zone source, NOT meta_zone_squares). If (7,10) is set to a WALL (blockedLocationType=WALL / locationType=BLOCKED) the advertised "head west to the Trophy Room" path dead-ends at the Star Map and the room is unreachable on foot — the only documented access route. (Player reports: feedback 476/477/478, 8626.)

Restrictions

  • No enemies, traps, or loot in the Trophy Room. Enforced in safe-zone trap exclusion (TROPHY_ROOM and STAR_MAP listed with hideout/starter/training/character zones).
  • Must be in your hideout to enter (cannot teleport directly from the world)
  • No level restriction — any level character can enter their own Trophy Room

Exiting

  • Walk back to the entrance square → returns to hideout
  • "teleport hideout" → returns to hideout entry (10,10)
  • "teleport" → returns to your last world position

Party Behavior

Visiting Another Player's Trophy Room

When in a party, members can enter the leader's hideout and Trophy Room:

  • You see the leader's full trophy collection (which are earned, which are empty)
  • You see which trophies are currently active for the leader
  • You cannot activate or deactivate trophies in someone else's Trophy Room

Message when entering: "You are visiting [Player Name]'s Trophy Room. You can view their collection but cannot activate or deactivate trophies here."

Party Leader's Own Trophy Room

The leader can activate and deactivate trophies normally. Party members watching see the changes reflected after the next action refresh.
